Similarly, there is a correlation between excess mortality and the proportion of the population living in overcrowded conditions, such that the areas with the highest rate of overcrowding are those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Socioeconomically disadvantaged population groups are at greater risk of infection 🦠 and death from #COVID19.
However, every country in the Region 🌎 has been affected.
We have seen also significant death rates in health care workers, related to the lack of available PPE.
Five countries of the Americas (USA, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and Colombia) are within the top 10 countries in the World with the highest ⬆️ number of cumulative deaths.
The Region of the Americas 🌎 has been the Epicenter of this Pandemic.
As of October 13, 2021, the Americas reported more than 91.7 million cases (38.4% of global cases) and more than 2.3 million deaths (46.3% of global deaths).
PAHO has worked with Member States to surge response capacity during public health emergencies and has invested in institutional capacities that have contributed tremendously to confront this unprecedented #COVID19 pandemic 🦠
